A new AI model, Mythos, is raising concerns across the cybersecurity and financial sectors. While designed to strengthen defences, it has already uncovered a significant number of vulnerabilities across widely used systems. The greater concern is speed. Experts warn that AI tools like this could also be used to identify and exploit weaknesses more quickly than organizations can detect and respond.
Access to the model has been tightly controlled, limited to major technology firms and organizations responsible for critical infrastructure. Even so, regulators are paying close attention. Leaders, including the Bank of Canada, have acknowledged that the broader implications remain unclear, particularly as these capabilities continue to evolve.
This is not a theoretical risk. AI is accelerating both the discovery and potential exploitation of vulnerabilities, putting pressure on businesses to strengthen defences, improve response times, and reassess their cybersecurity posture.
